New Series: CyberAfrika
CyberAfrika is a cutting-edge project that merges the captivating cultural elements of Lagos, Nigeria with the futuristic, dystopian backdrop of Cyberpunk science fiction. The series comprises a range of cyberwear designs that have been meticulously crafted to integrate seamlessly with the aesthetics of Africa. By expertly blending these seemingly disparate elements, CyberAfrika creates a unique and captivating vision that is both experimental and fresh. The result is a stunning representation of the future of fashion, one that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Africa while embracing the innovative technologies of tomorrow.
CyberAfrika is a part of a science fiction futuristic universe that has been in the works for awhile. It focuses on cyberpunk aesthetics, and while some of my works for this project showcase the more depressing, dystopian aspects of the cyberpunk aesthetic (example: Cyberbox) , CyberAfrika is more of a lighthearted, breath-of-fresh-air take on cyberpunk.

The idea of CyberAfrika had originally came to me when trying to come up with a creative concept for ArtCenter. I wanted to apply to their Entertainment Design program. I had looked at a Bratz ad where they collaborated with designer, Mowalola. The dolls were based in Lagos, Nigeria. I thought it was cool to do a spotlight on the streetwear in Africa, and so I was inspired. With my obsession of cyberpunk and urge to put Africa in the spotlight for its unique cultural elements, CyberAfrika was born. I didn’t end up applying to ArtCenter, though (I didn’t have any keypaint concept art).
CyberAfrika is supposed to be viewed as a fashion catalogue, showcasing the various cyber-headwear/body modifications of Africa’s future fashion moguls. It is a part of my project of how I see the future.
